MedicalInstitution draft subclass

One hospital or clinic: one row of the list a municipality publishes as 自治体標準オープンデータセット dataset 10 (医療機関一覧). A subtype of Facility that adds the kind of institution, the medical institution code, clinical departments, number of beds, its role in disaster medical care (災害拠点分類) and after-hours care. Consultation days and hours go into openingHoursSpecification.

Kindentity
Subclass ofA subclass of Facility. Attributes with the same name carry the parent's IRIs and the parent's required attributes stay required, so code that reads the parent's attributes reads this type too. The type itself differs: a client that selects by the parent type finds this one only by following rdfs:subClassOf in the vocabulary.

Using this model

  • How to validate data and send it to a broker: Using the models.

  • To add attributes of your own to this model, the extension builder writes the @context and JSON Schema.

  • Extended this model? If you publish it on a site made with the toolkit, it shows on this page once your site is on the list of sites. Without a site, list your extension so others can reuse your names (how to fill in the form).

  • Files that particular brokers and tools can load as they are, made from this model: Adapters

  • The Link header, for sending data without @context in the body:

    http
    Link: <https://datamodels.jp/context/facility/v1.jsonld>; rel="http://www.w3.org/ns/json-ld#context"; type="application/ld+json"

Example

The examples are a fictional scenario (heavy rain in Chiyoda, Tokyo). Place names and codes are real; the events, people and teams are invented. See writing examples.

Municipal standard open dataset, data item definition sheet A (2026-08-01), sheet '10. medical institutions' (Digital Agency)19 of 19 fields

The list this model represents; a medical institution is a hospital or a clinic. Columns are given as the Japanese name (English item name). The address, location, contact and consultation-hours columns map as in the JapaneseAddress, Geometry, ContactPoint and OpeningHours tables. Columns left out: 地方公共団体名, 高度の種別 and 高度の値, 状況 (status: no definition or value list, and the name of an NGSI-LD core term), 画像 with its licence.

externalFacilityIdID (identifier)the entity id is made from this ID (convert.id); the definition sheet makes it unique within the municipality's list. A list that has one ID on several rows (for example 1.31E+11, rounded by a spreadsheet) is converted after its IDs are fixed, not by numbering rows

Notes

  • Built on the Digital Agency's 自治体標準オープンデータセット, data item definition sheet A (2026-08-01, checked 2026-10-11), sheet 10 医療機関一覧 (https://www.digital.go.jp/resources/open_data/municipal-standard-data-set-test). Field by field in mapping/jichitai-opendata-medical.yaml.
  • A subtype (x-subclass-of) of Facility that adds the columns of this dataset only: kind of institution, medical institution code, clinical departments, number of beds, disaster base class and after-hours care. Consultation days and hours go into openingHoursSpecification, the fax number into contactPoint.
  • The kind of institution and the disaster base class take values after the definition sheet's value lists (病院 → hospital and so on). The disaster base class list and example write 期間災害医療センター, read as a typo for 基幹 (core); the current national terms are 基幹災害拠点病院 and 地域災害拠点病院. The 状況 (status) column is left out: it has no definition or value list, and its name is an NGSI-LD core term.
  • Upstream considered (2026-10-11): schema.org MedicalOrganization, Hospital and MedicalClinic are close in meaning and have medicalSpecialty, but its values are members of the schema.org MedicalSpecialty enumeration, which do not match Japanese department names; changing an upstream term's type is not allowed, so departments are medicalDepartments, an array of strings. The number of beds is minted too: schema.org numberOfBeds counts beds in a hotel room. Smart Data Models has no hospital type.
  • The example (三井記念病院) comes from published sources, all checked 2026-10-11: the number of beds and the disaster base status from the Tokyo Metropolitan Government's 東京都災害拠点病院一覧 (as of 2024-08-01); the corporation's name, kana and corporate number from the National Tax Agency's corporate number site; the postal code, telephone and departments from the hospital's website; the coordinates from GSI's address search (神田和泉町 1番地). The ID is invented. Chiyoda City does not publish a medical institution list on the Tokyo open data catalog (checked 2026-10-11).
  • Real data seen (Chuo City's 医療機関一覧, checked 2026-10-11, 1331 rows): the kind of institution is written as 一般診療所, 歯科診療所 and 企業内診療所, none of which is in the definition sheet's list; four rows have 有り (yes) as the number of beds, and the converter rejects them; the disaster base class, consultation days and hours are empty. The value list stays as it is (decided 2026-10-11); it is revisited if a second municipality also uses kinds that the definition sheet does not list.
